Apple Music has increased subscription prices across several key markets, with the company attributing the changes to rising music licensing costs. The new pricing took effect on 17 July, marking the streaming service’s first price increase since October 2022.
In a statement provided to Music Business Worldwide, Apple said: “As a result of rising licensing costs, Apple Music is increasing its subscription price beginning today.” The company did not provide further details on which licensing agreements or industry factors prompted the increase. 
In the United States, the Individual plan has increased from $10.99 to $11.99 per month, while the Family plan now costs $19.99, up from $16.99. Student subscriptions have also risen by $1 to $6.99 per month. Similar increases have rolled out internationally, with UK subscribers now paying £11.99 for an Individual plan and £19.99 for the Family tier. Across much of Europe, Individual subscriptions have increased to €11.99, Family plans to €19.99, and Student memberships to €6.99.
The changes also extend beyond Apple Music. Apple has increased pricing for select Apple One bundles in the US, with the Family plan rising to $27.95 per month and the Premier tier increasing to $39.95. The Individual Apple One plan remains unchanged.
The announcement comes amid a broader trend of rising subscription costs across the music streaming industry. Earlier this year, Spotify also raised prices for its Premium plans in the US, reflecting increasing costs associated with music licensing and platform operations.
