Skrillex Announces Final Album with Atlantic Records, Plans Independent Future

Dubstep icon Skrillex has revealed that his upcoming project will mark the end of his partnership with Atlantic Records, signaling a shift toward independence in his music career.

In a candid series of posts on X, Skrillex opened up about the challenges of navigating the music industry and shared his excitement about this new chapter. “I’ve never felt more inspired and in lockstep with my intentions as an artist,” he wrote. “As I’m nearing completion of my next work and my final project for Atlantic Records, I can’t help but feel very existential about it all.”

Atlantic Records has been instrumental in shaping Skrillex’s career, hosting groundbreaking releases such as ‘Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites’ and last year’s dual albums, Quest for Fire and Don’t Get Too Close. While the partnership has been pivotal in defining modern electronic music, Skrillex has decided to strike out on his own.

Expressing optimism for the future, Skrillex noted, “I’m thrilled to get this [album] out and focus on more releases in 2025 as an ‘independent’ artist.” However, he also acknowledged the complexity of the term, adding, “‘Independent’ is such a strange term because I still depend on my team as well as all the other creatives and executors to do what I do.”

The Grammy-winning producer also reflected on the difficulties of the music industry, which he described as “very political” and “almost impossible” to understand. He expressed particular concern for young artists, calling their path “a dangerous job.”

As of now, Skrillex has not announced a release date for his final project under Atlantic Records or any forthcoming independent work. Fans eagerly await what’s next from the electronic music pioneer as he embarks on this transformative journey.

“The industry is like politics , it’s designed to be almost impossible for I understand. I’ve seen so man artist get caught up in the illusion and delusion of the business. It’s a dangerous job to be a young artist.”
