It can get pretty lonely here on this side of the Atlantic. Writing for an American tailored audience is a lot of fun, while gleaning insights into the EDM movement is always interesting. Now, I’d like to start introducing you to artists closer to home. At YourEDM (although some don’t believe it) we always try to display a variety of different soundscapes, from wherever and whatever. So, here’s something a bit more local.
Kaya are a duo from Coleraine, Northern Ireland and consist of Scott McCann and Charlie Marx. Although based on the northern shores they’ve released productions supported by BBC Radio 1, BBC Ulster ATL & Radio West Fife. With tracks and remixes for LuPS Records they shall also be supporting Nervo on March 15th at Lush!. As can be expected from the mp3 generation, the duo have been exposed to many different styles of music and are keen to blend many different genres.
As can be seen in the duo’s latest release.
Stay the Night is Zedd’s latest single in the UK and has recently reached the No. 2 spot in the charts. It was bolstered by universal critical acclaim and is a credit to Zedd’s ability to create radio-friendly dance beats.
In their remix, Kaya have boisterously brought together drumstep, trap, big-room synths and radio-friendly sounds. They back up Hayley’s searing vocals with Sub-Focus/Chase & Status style beats and acoustic guitars. The result creates a strong, accessible and epic soundscape. The truth however, lies in the rather surprising trap breakdown, which works well with the different genres on offer here.
This organic and exhilarating remix is certainly what you need if you’d like something completely different from the original.
