Those who suffer from serious FOMO will either be excited, or perhaps disappointed, to hear that this year’s Tomorrowland will be televised for the first time in the festival’s 10 year history. MTV has recently signed on to exclusively broadcast live event footage from the 2014 summer festival as part of its MTV World Stage programming. This year’s Tomorrowland, which has expanded to run across two weekends (July 18-20 & 25-27), will feature top EDM artists such as Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, Hardwell, Diplo, Carl Cox, and Eric Prydz.
Tomorrowland, which sold out of its 360,000 available tickets the first hour they went on sale, is considered the world’s leading EDM festival pulling in fans from over 200 countries, with 16.8 million more viewing from the YouTube livestream.
Executive Vice President of Talent and Music Programming/Events at Viacom International Media Networks Bruce Gillmer raves about the MTV/Tomorrowland partnership.
“Tomorrowland is a festival in a category of its own, so we’re excited to bring this content to MTV’s international audiences. Electronic dance music has been part of MTV’s repertoire for almost two decades, stretching right back to the early years – particularly in Europe. So working with Tomorrowland is a perfect fit, and connects us with the new generation of EDM fans and followers around the world.”
In addition to the broadcast, MTV has announced two 1-hour World Stage specials on Tomorrowland to be premiered in August on its network of 60 international channels reaching 550 million homes across the globe, as well as an impending documentary on the festival to celebrate its 10th anniversary expected to release in late 2014.
