Pazz and Jop is the yearly music poll of New York’s Village Voice publication. Polling 600 music critics in 2014 for their favorite music albums and tracks, the lists included some electronic productions too!

Sitting at the top of the album chart is D’Angelo‘s Black Messiah album, but R&B might not attract any electronic music heads. The 13th best album goes to none other but Flying Lotus‘s You’re Dead! If you are into experimental electronic, infused with some jazz roots, definitely check out his 5th studio album.

Aphex Twin‘s new album was bound to make the list, but I was a little disappointing to see it sitting on number 17. Titled Syro, it is Richard James’s 6th studio album and a must-have for all the vinyl collectors out there.

As for the top songs of 2014, there were only two electronic music releases on the list. The first one is everyone’s “favorite” track, “Turn Down For What.” DJ Snake‘s top hit was bound to hit the list, even though everyone is tired from hearing again and again in every communication medium possible.  At least, they ranked it as the 9th best track of 2014, and not in the top 5.

The 11th spot is taken by the other electronic track, and it is the collaboration Flying Lotus did with Kendrick Lamar. “Never Catch Me” grabs hip-hop and jazz music elements, and infuses them with Lamar‘s lyrics to get this dope track for the hip-hop fans. Really, it is a masterpiece in my opinion. Check out the official video clip below.
