REPORT: Nirvana Sues Marc Jacobs For Ripping Off Their Iconic Smiley Face

Nirvana is reportedly suing fashion designer Marc Jacobs for jacking the band’s signature smiley face logo.

According to the new lawsuit, brought to light by TMZ, a piece from the brand’s 2018 “Bootleg Redux Grunge” collection utilizes the likeness of Nirvana’s smiley face without permission. Apparently swapping out the “X” eyes with cleverly placed “M” and “J” letters wasn’t enough to fool anyone.

The entire line of clothing by design is focused around the grunge music scene, which Nirvana helped pave the way for. The t-shirt in question has an uncanny resemblance to Nirvana’s same design introduced back in 1992.

They say imitation is the best form of flattery — and that’s pretty much the case here.

TMZ reached out to a rep for Marc Jacobs and so far, no response.
