It’s always a treat whenever we get new music from Shaun Frank, and his latest collab, with fellow Canadian producer Takis, “Don’t Say I Love You” will not disappoint. Featuring just flat out amazing vocal work from English singer-songwriter SHELLS, “Don’t Say I Love You” is a vibey, but radio friendly, breakup tune that will have you swept up in all of the feels.
The track opens up with some synths and vocals reverbing in the background. SHELLS’s captivating vocal comes in amidst some soft pads and light piano notes. She’s describing what should be a fun night out, but something’s amiss. SHELLS seems to sing from two perspectives, it’s a classic situation; one person is more than ready to move on, the other can’t bear the thought of it.
The chorus and drop is absolutely stunning, lyrically, we get the opposite side of the narrative. Musically, there’s just some vibey, but upbeat synths that will you grooving. The mood continues through the second verse into the next drop. “Don’t Say I Love You” is a true summer banger that will have you reaching for your dance partner. Here’s what Takis and Shaun Frank had to say about “Don’t Say I Love You.”
“To me, ‘Don’t Say I Love You’ represents the final chapter in a relationship. While you’re ready to move on, someone else is trying to show you that they care. Disinterest colliding with overcompensating is a strange and conflicting imbalance that I’ve certainly felt. Even saying ‘I love you’ feels too little too late.” – Takis
“I instantly fell in love with the vocal that SHELLS sent us. And I had a lot of fun chopping this up with Takis too.” -SF
