One of electronic music’s biggest software and hardware companies officially has a new home. Native Instruments, the brand behind iconic platforms like Traktor, Kontakt, Maschine, and Komplete, is being acquired by inMusic, the company that already owns Akai Professional, Denon DJ, Numark, Moog, Rane, and several other major music technology brands.
The acquisition arrives just months after Native Instruments entered insolvency proceedings earlier this year, sparking widespread concern throughout the producer and DJ community about the future of its products and services. According to statements from both companies, existing software, hardware, downloads, customer support, and platforms will continue operating as normal while the deal is finalised in the coming weeks.
For the EDM world, the deal could have major implications across both DJing and music production. Native Instruments’ Traktor ecosystem has long been a staple within underground electronic music culture, while Maschine and Kontakt remain essential tools for countless producers across house, techno, drum & bass, and beyond. Meanwhile, inMusic already controls a massive share of the DJ hardware market through Denon DJ, Numark, and Rane, making this one of the biggest consolidations the music tech industry has seen in years. 
While some producers and DJs are cautiously optimistic about future integrations and product development, others are already raising concerns about increasing consolidation within music technology. Either way, the acquisition marks a major turning point for one of electronic music’s most influential companies.
