Justin Bieber, Kanye & More Call Grammy Awards Irrelevant, May Not Attend

Justin Bieber, Kanye West and Frank Ocean might not be attending the Grammy Awards ceremony on February 12 because they believe it to be irrelevant to their music careers, according to TMZ.

Frank Ocean appears to have started the movement when he refused to even submit his new album to the Grammys for consideration. According to TMZ, “Ocean says he thinks the Grammys are a dinosaur that doesn’t represent young, black artists.”

Despite being nominated for four Grammys of his own, Justin Bieber is reported to have plans to be elsewhere when the Awards take place. When asked, Bieber said that he “doesn’t think the Grammys are relevant or representative, especially when it comes to young singers.”

Drake, who has eight nominations this year, is reported to be touring in Europe during the Awards. Reports also suggest that Kanye West will not be in attendance, despite having eight nominations this and 21 awards of his own in the past.

Sources tell TMZ that, unlike the Oscars, there isn’t much hostility surrounding the Grammys. Younger singers just feel the Grammys are out of touch with the real strides being made in music, they said.

According to new reports by Entertainment Tonight, however, Grammys producer Ken Erlich said that Justin Bieber’s and Kanye’s presence at this year’s Awards is still being discussed. He hinted at a possible performance from Bieber, if he does show up, as well as an appearance from his ex, Selena Gomez.

“We’re actually still talking to Justin. Kanye, it’s probably going to be a question of — if it will happen, it will or won’t happen closer to the show… We’ve worked with Kanye many number of times and we’ve actually been very much involved in the successes that he’s had. Some of his greatest performances have been on the Grammys. I would sure love to see him in the house.”
