For the past number of decades, trading cards have been a big part of childhoods worldwide. Collecting, trading, and showing them to your friends was a fun way to pass the time as a kid. Now what if instead of sports stars, celebrities, or monsters you had trading cards based around your favorite DJs. Be careful what you wish for.
Pulse Radio has brought to light a staggering number of DJ trading cards from the mid-90s, featuring such names as Carl Cox, Paul van Dyk and Richie Hawtin. These trading cards have stats ranging from longest set to size of their record collection, and it’s all (presumptuously) well-documented and recorded. If you’ve ever been in doubt that electronic music is a culture in its own right, trading cards would probably change your mind pretty quick.
The full list includes: Josh Wink, Kevin Saunderson, Armando, Mike Dunn, Mr C, DJ Hell, Patrick Pulsinger, Juan Atkins, Dave Clarke, Carl Cox, Stacey Pullen, Pascal FEOS, Westbam, Laurent Garnier, CJ Bolland, Carl Craig, Miss Djax, Stickmen, Sven, Rich, Derrick May, Dave Angel, John Acquaviva, Paul Van Dyk, George Morel, and Claude Young.
And as Mr. C points out on the source article:
“this “Set” of DJ trump cards we’re never available individually at all as a “collectable trading card series.” but only as a pack, which was given away as part of the package of Mr.C presents X-Mix 6 “Electronic Storm” on Studio K7.” [sic]
