Joshua Walter, though I’ve never heard of him, will be on my mind for a while now. This stellar remix of “Whistle (While You Work It)” by Katy Tiz throws an absolutely infectious bassline on the original.
The original track could be compared to Carly Rae Jepsen or Taylor Swift, in that it’s a singer/songwriter, upbeat happy tune with a female vocalist. It’s not particularly remarkable except for the rhythm and vocals, which Joshua Walter takes full advantage of. Throwing a house beat and deeper bassline on the vocals and rhythm, Walter effectively remodels the track from the ground up, turning it into a pounding house tune.
The hook is equally infectious as the bassline. I’ve been singing “whistle while you work it~” to myself for the past couple of days, often unconsciously. While this track won’t likely be played in any top-tier clubs, its accessibility and chill demeanor makes it perfect for any kind of lounge atmosphere.
