As I write this, I recall the first time I learned what a “rave” was. I think this was back in 2008 when I was 14 or 15. When my friend told me she was going to a rave I asked, “Like the movie theater?” Clearly I had no idea what she was talking about. She described the event she was going to and it was in Salt Lake City, Utah…hosted by a company called V2 Presents. It’s funny because at this time I was into electronic music, I just didn’t really understand it and didn’t associate this style of music with the term “rave”. Intrigued by this concept, I started following V2 Presents and dance music very closely. I knew all the events they hosted, which artists they brought out, and would even look through photos on PlurLife.com from their events and use some for my iPod background. Creepy right? There was just one problem: I live in Indiana; there was absolutely no way my parents would let me travel to Salt Lake City for a show.
Fast-forward to 2015 and V2 asks me to travel to SLC to cover Das Energi, their biggest, annual festival in August. When I learned of the opportunity, I knew I couldn’t pass it up…I mean these people are the ones who really kick started my love for dance music so I have to go out there and experience this festival. When asking my parents if I could take this opportunity, I was very nervous b/c for the last six or seven years they had said no to me traveling to Utah for a show (even though they have let me go to HARD Summer, Ultra, SnowGlobe, and EDC Vegas – I know I know I don’t understand either). Well, fortunately they said yes!! So here I am…writing this preview article less than a week before my adventure to Utah. Needless to say, I’m rather stoked.
