Although Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are perennial mainstays near the top of DJ Mag’s annual popularity contest, they apparently attract a ton of haters as well. Die-hard Armin van Buuren fans recently brought this to light, as they did not take too kindly (understatement of the year) to a recent b2b performance with the big room, one-synth wonders.

While this backlash may be a tad vicious, these keyboard warriors do have a valid reason behind their anger. Armin has been in the driver seat of electronic music for around 15 years now, and this misguided attempt to appeal to a mainstream crowd shows that he has lost his knack for innovation. You could make the argument that Armin is trying to experiment with other genres, yet I believe the trance legend is attempting to keep up with this ever-so-adaptive state of EDM, however setting aside his long-time fans in the process.
