Starting July 1st, Spain’s Balearic islands will be imposing a new “Sustainable Tourism Tax” for anyone over 16.
The affected islands are Menorca, Mallorca, and the island party capital of Ibiza; the two factors determining the rate of tax is length of stay and type of accommodation. It seems that lodging is the main expense which will be taxed, ranging from €0,50 per person/night for hostels, to €2 per person/night on upscale hotels. Additionally, stays longer than 8 days mean the tax will be halved, so you might be better off booking that two week clubbing stint instead of the usual five day binge.
The news comes ahead of another quality Mediterranean clubbing season, with BCM Mallorca’s grand reopening with Danny Howard, a blistering lineup for Pacha with Solumun and Richie Hawtin taking the helm, and Sankeys reviving the lifeblood of the Balearic Beat.
