Marking PhaseOne’s second release in quick succession on Disciple, we have the Dreamscape EP. Still reeling from the intense display of Dubstep mastery on his last Origins EP, Duffy shows no sign of slowing down with his latest offering. This EP has quickly become a staple across the Disciple family with support from Barely Alive, Virtual Riot and Dubloadz at recent festivals. (see below)
We caught up with the man himself while he was out in LA, check the full interview below!
This EP feels like a very natural progression from ‘Origins’ which is sure to please the fans… can we expect more in this direction?
Absolutely! It was a real challenge trying to top the Origins EP but I think I’m really finding my defined/signature sound the more I try to master this Metal + Dubstep fusion. Dreamscape EP is probably my heaviest work yet and features full metal sections, punchy drum fills and of course big bass sounds.
I know you were working on the EP whilst on your recent US tour, do you find it hard to produce on the road? Or more inspiring?
I find it rather difficult to write on the road! But since the Origins EP and all the touring off the back of it I haven’t had a free weekend since March and don’t have a free weekend until like September or something, so trying to find that creative space / motivation in hotel rooms and planes is something i’m having to get used to. In saying that I’m super stoked on how this EP turned out so clearly I’m on the right track.
I see you recently announced the Dreamscape Tour in Aus/NZ. Will this also be making its way back to the US?
Straight off the back of the Australian tour I’ll be relocating to America where I already have a bunch of festival bookings and events over the US summer including Toxic Summer, Dancefestopia, Big Dub Fest, UpNorth Fest & a whole lot more TBA! So yeah Dreamscape will definitely make its way all across the US over the next few months!
Some really interesting collaborations on this EP including Japanese metal band Crystal Lake… what was it like working with them? And what other collabs can we expect in the future?
Every track on this EP is a collab which I’m stoked about! The title track ‘Dreamscape’ features Japanese metal band Crystal Lake. I met the band at my show in Tokyo when I toured Japan earlier this year and they expressed how much they liked my sound and loved what I did with ‘In Hearts Wake’ on the Origins EP, so we made it happen. Working with metal elements like distorted guitars and screaming vocals is super refreshing, dubstep is so over saturated with the same shit and to me this is one of the turns it needs to take. I see more and more producers delving into the whole Metal + Bass music crossover which is awesome!
