Sony/ATV Music Publishing just pulled off perhaps one of the most astonishing musical feats we’ve ever heard of. For an entire year straight, every No. 1 track to grace the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the U.S. was published or co-published by the leading music company.
Dating back to May 2017, Sony/ATV has led the Hot 100 with popular songs from Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Cardi B, Post Malone and more. The uninterrupted 52-week run at the top of the charts comes as Drake‘s “Nice For What” just achieved its fourth consecutive week at No. 1.
“Despacito” kicked things off properly, giving Sony/ATV a jump start heading into its massive year. The single spent 16 weeks ruling the chart between May and September last year. With this, “Despacito” clocked in the longest stay at No. 1 in the near six-decade history of the Billboard Hot 100.
Sony/ATV Chairman and CEO Martin Bandier released a statement via press release on the huge success:
“This is an incredible accomplishment by our worldwide A&R team. At Sony/ATV we strive to be successful creatively on a global basis and the fruits of our labor are shown by the diversity of our songwriters who have been No. 1 on the Hot 100 over the past year.”
