They say a picture is worth a thousand words — and Skrillex just shared one worth all that and more.
While cleaning out some old photos on his phone, the producer found this one from back in 2015. He says it was around 4 am in Bangkok, Thailand when he had a memorable encounter with this little girl. What happened next is beyond incredible…
“She couldn’t have been older than 5-6 years. Out there, some parents send their kids out to beg for money / sell stuff to tourist. I think she was trying to sell one of my friends a bracelet but at one point we made eye contact and then she started running over towards me smiling like an old friend I hadn’t seen in forever. I bent down on my knees and opened my arms to her and without any hesitation she jumped in and we started to hug. I’ll never forget the smile on her face and the way her warm energy made me feel. In that moment I felt this crazy connection with her. It made me pretty emotional.”
Ugh, the feels. It gets even better…
“At one point my crew who were waiting for me to get In the car told me it was time to go. I got up and started to walk over to the car and before I got in looked back and she was still there smiling. I bent down once again and opened my arms. she ran over a second and we stared hugging again. I told my team ‘WE HAVE TO TAKE HER’ In this moment I felt a tremendous love but a bit of sadness started to kick in. ‘It’s 4 AM and she’s on the streets with , we can’t leave her!’ I said. My tour manger at the time told me ‘Sonny we can’t take this girl, we are in a foreign country. that’s definitely kidnapping!’ During this time we were still hugging but it was time to go. It may have been hardest time I’ve had letting someone go from a hug.”
The moment Skrillex shared with this little girl was most definitely bittersweet — but it’s amazing to know we can share human connections like these with people we’ve hardly even met. He says this “simple moment” had a “tremendous impact” on him.
Our hearts…
