Happy birthday, Porter Robinson! One of our favorite producers-slash-people is turning 27 today and what a year it’s been for him.
2018-2019 has been a year of growth and change for Porter in more ways than one. Most of all, he announced his debut tour as Virtual Self, which took him across the US and world, playing festivals as well as intimate clubs. His newest project also got him nominated for a Grammy, for “Ghost Voices” in the Best Dance Recording category.
Porter also announced his very own artist festival in March 2019. Originally called “Multiverse,” Second Sky eventually named G Jones, Madeon, Nina Las Vegas, and more on its lineup, with Skrillex coming out as a special guest on the second day.
Just last month before the festival, Porter posted a selfie showing he’d turned blonde — a staggering change in his image and one that perhaps signaled something new coming.
Days after showing off his new blonde ‘do, Porter also played Ultra Korea as both his main project and Virtual Self, playing one after the other. He played as a replacement to Martin Garrix and gave him a touching shout-out, as well.
As part of throwing his festival in June, Porter started the Robinson Malawi Fund to raise money to fight Burkitt lymphoma, a type of cancer, in Malawi. Combining donations, money from ticket sales, and Porter’s match, the fund raised over $150,000.
Happy birthday again to Porter Robinson!
