We are stoked to have Project Bongo chatting with us this week, and they are still lighting up playlists and speakers with their new summer sound ‘Miami.’ The group has established a warm electronic signature, laced with pop-inspired vocals and guitar instrumentals.
The guys share a little more about their background and influencers here.
Hey guys, thank you for speaking to us! Where in the world are you based right now?
We’re based all around the Netherlands. We mostly meet up in Utrecht. That’s also were we went to school together.
If you had to describe your musical style for someone who hadn’t heard your music before, how would you sum it up?
I would describe our music as electronic pop, heavily influenced by rock & roll.
What do you love most about being artists and making music?
We love being on the road to play shows and meeting new people who are all connected by the same thing – good music.
Where did it start for you? Do you remember what first got you into it, or a particular track that inspired you?
We started the band at the Herman Brood Academy. It’s a music college based in Utrecht. We started as a school project and wanted to make pop music like Two Door Cinema Club and Phoenix.
Who or what are you currently really into, music-wise?
We’re currently into the new Cage The Elephant record ‘Social Cues’ and the new Raconteurs record ‘Help Us Stranger.’
We’re really enjoying ‘Miami’! Can you tell us a little bit about the making of it?
Miami is actually a track we made a long time a go and we always had fun playing it live. But the chorus didn’t feel right, so that’s why it didn’t make the other EPs. After a make over of the track we had a new ‘Miami’ we were really proud of. That’s the version we recorded and you can stream on Spotify.
Did you have fun producing the track?
We had a lot of fun producing ‘Miami’ with Huub Reijnders in Haarlem.
What plans do you have for the rest of the summer?
We’re also the band for the Dutch artist Roxeanne Hazes so we’re doing a few shows with her. We planning the release for the second single and planning on doing a few shows in the late summer.
Could you share a random fact about yourselves with us?
We don’t have any random facts, only crazy stories…
