Last year, Fox Stevenson released one of our favorite albums in years, Killjoy. Now, he’s back with his first single post-album, “Like That,” and proven that not only has he kept the quality up from the album, he might have even gotten better.
“Like That” is intensely lyrically dense, once again showcasing Fox’s ability as one of the most talented songwriters and lyricists in dance music.
You gotta choose your battles
And make them mean something
Sing great songs, keep that heartbeat bumping
When all else fails and you can’t let go
A tin foil hat does more than you know
The song itself is upbeat and past-paced, fun and engaging. It’s lush with instrumentation, small embellishments, and more that keeps it intensely interesting throughout while never becoming overwhelming. The drop is minimalist, perhaps the only criticism you could possibly levy against the song, but even that’s just a matter of personal taste.
If you saw Fox Stevenson on his live tour last year, you know he still has even more releases up his sleeves that are this tier of quality or better. I’m insanely excited to see what he comes out with next, but for now, I’m savoring “Like That.” Listen now below!
