A public dispute has erupted between John Summit and Pete Tong after Summit accused the legendary DJ and broadcaster of releasing a remix they had worked on together without him. In a series of posts shared on X, Summit claimed Tong had promised to release their collaboration before instead moving forward with a version featuring Franky Rizardo. Summit alleged that Tong had contributed “nothing in terms of production” and expressed his disappointment, writing, “To think I actually looked up to you.”
Summit later shared another post claiming he had completed the orchestral version of the remix himself, adding that he would premiere it during his shows this weekend. Alongside the posts, screenshots appearing to show WhatsApp conversations between Summit and Tong began circulating online, although neither party has publicly commented on the authenticity or wider context of the messages beyond what has been shared.
Shortly afterwards, Summit clarified that he had spoken directly with Franky Rizardo and stressed that his criticism was not aimed at the Dutch producer. According to Summit, Rizardo had no knowledge of the circumstances surrounding the remix. Rizardo later released his own statement on X, announcing that after learning more about the situation, he no longer felt comfortable being involved with the release. He added that he believes everyone had good intentions but that the track will now remain a “set-only” record rather than receiving an official release. 
The dispute quickly sparked discussion across the electronic music community, with deadmau5 joining the conversation in the comments of Housemusic.US’s Instagram post reporting on the situation. . Responding to the situation, he wrote, “Little early in your career to be busting out this ‘you stole my stolen shit’ trope. Innit John?” He later added, “Of all the people not to start shit with… is the guy who started shit.”
At the time of writing, Pete Tong has not publicly responded to Summit’s allegations or Rizardo’s decision to withdraw from the release. Should further statements be made by those involved, this story will be updated.
