The back-and-forth between Pete Tong and John Summit over a disputed ‘Missing’ remix has reached a new stage, with Tong now offering his own account of how the collaboration unraveled. Summit had accused Tong of pulling a remix the two were building together and repurposing it for a separate version with Dutch house artist Franky Rizardo. Speaking with Alex Tripi, CEO of the Pete Tong DJ Academy, Tong pushed back on that narrative and pointed to a proposal document he says circulated back in May 2026.
According to Tong, the orchestral rework of ‘Missing’ started life as material for the next winter run of his Ibiza Classics tour, where classic dance tracks get the live-orchestra treatment. He says he cleared the arrangement with Everything But The Girl’s Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt first for live performance, then went back to secure approval to turn it into a remix with Summit. Tong maintains he was in “positive conversations on text” with Summit about a version at the same time discussions with Rizardo were happening on a separate one, something he frames as standard practice when a track gets multiple versions ahead of release.
The proposal reportedly mapped out a rollout with Rizardo’s version arriving first, minimal orchestral elements included, and Summit’s version following later in the summer. That plan has since been complicated by Rizardo pulling out of the release altogether, citing personal reasons. Tong closed his remarks on a pointed note, saying he’s tried repeatedly to reach Summit directly rather than play things out publicly. 
For now, the dispute remains unresolved and one-sided in terms of public comment, Summit has yet to respond to Tong’s video. Anyone following the Ibiza Classics saga will be watching to see whether the two ever address it directly, or continue trading statements from a distance.
