On today’s Unsung Heroes, we take a look at the very overlooked producer, Alexey Mazhaev, otherwise known as Fon.Leman. Alexey is an exception to the usual producers that we talk about on here, just because of the sheer amount of genres that he has covered throughout his entire career. He first started out in Breaks before moving into such genres like Industrial, Trance, Ambient and Techno. He has even delved into Hip Hop at some point! His philosophy is to create his own, one-of-a-kind style throughout multiple genres while keeping his core identity and integrity in tact. With influences such as Kraftwork, Prodigy and Hybrid under his belt, it has taught him to never give up his sound and to create unforgettable music. Such is the case with his release of Mental Cell off of Intricate Records in September. A wonderful track filled with all kinds of unusual sounds and chords, it is a track that further blends the line between genres and boldly (and cheekily) defies any attempt at classification.

Fon.Leman is a master at combining unique, eccentric sounds together in such a way that increases the grooves upon his tracks. Throughout the first section, we hear noises such as Deep House chords, Progressive flourishes, Electro stabs, Lounge-like pads and Progressive Trance synths. The entire track gives off a Daft Punk-esque sense of directional production and the overall feel of the piece is second to none in comparison. Coupling that with some incredibly smooth vocals, it gives us a breath of fresh air into a largely unknown genre that only he is able to produce. Some say it is Accelerated Progressive while others say that it is a certain Ibiza-style where groove and funkiness of the track emulates the day life in the island of Ibiza. Fon.Leman not only has his own specific sound, but he also has his own genre and we here at Your EDM are excited to see the bold new directions that this stunning producer will put forth in the next coming months and years. Fon.Leman‘s Mental Cell is out now on Intricate Records on Beatport, so head on over there to buy this amazing piece of work today.
Keep the music alive. -Q
