The Top 5 Worst Shows Of 2013

riot-police

Note: This list is in no specific order.

2013 played host to a wide range of spectacular shows and festivals many that will go down in EDM history. With that said, we wanted to take a moment to point out some of our low points so we may all keep some perspective on the reality of our situation. Some of the ridiculousness and  wrongfulness that struck some of our events are note worthy in order to build a stronger and more fair scene for 2014. So without further ado, check out a few of the “gone wrong” shows below!

1. Porter Robinson Accused Of Inciting A Riot

Yup, you read that right. Back in April, the police interrupted the event at 11:00 pm and asked Porter to stop playing which, Porter did not heed. He was right in the middle of playing his monster tune, Language, and instead of stopping, he decided to finish the song. The police cut the power and accused Porter of “inciting a riot” and was nearly arrested on the spot for failing to comply. (Read more HERE)

2. Dada Land Gets Shut Down In Miami

The Miami police department shut down Dada Land this november in full riot gear uniform. Tritonal was finishing up their set when the fire marshall decided it was time to lock the gates due to the craziness. Whether riot gear was necessary or not, they came ready for trouble. (Read more HERE)

3. Destructo’s Boston House Party Gets Slammed By Police

How do you have an unforgettable house party? The recipe for success at this level does not take much to uncover, look no further than Destructo at Emily’s house this past August in Boston. Dropping the likes of Adam BeyerDarius Syrossian and Nora En Pure, the HARD Events founder spun over an hour of delectable house music. The fun was sure to continue, until the Boston Police showed up to shut off the party. The arrival of the police can be heard at 1:17:18 in the live mix below, with one officer saying “I’ll take it with me as evidence and it will be in a fucking roach-infested basement for about a year”. Yikes. This being said, having the police show up at your house party featuring Destructo just goes to show how rocking the evening was. (Read more HERE)

4. UMASS EDM Events Get Cancelled Due To Molly Scare

The MDMA scare that gripped the east coast this past year resulted in UMASS canceling their remaining EDM event for the 2013 year. The promoter of the canceled Pretty Lights and Above & Beyond shows, NV Concepts, fired back at the school for canceling the events based only on mainstream media hype. (Read More HERE)

We at NV Concepts are disappointed in the University of Massachusetts administration’s decision to cancel the semester’s remaining electronic dance music concerts, Above & Beyond (10/04/2013) and Pretty Lights (10/30/2013). The decision’s impact goes beyond substantial financial loss to the great disappointment of UMASS students and fans throughout the region of both of these artists. While this was not a decision made by NV Concepts, we do extend to the students and EDM fans our sincerest apologies for yet another lost opportunity to enjoy the music that you love. We share in your disappointment. Please know that we are making every effort to relocate these shows and look forward to announcing the alternate venues. We continue, through various means, to promote the safety of our concert goers and seek to be an educational resource in the prevention of substance abuse. Therefore, we view these cancellations as a lost opportunity to collaborate with UMASS on this important effort.

5 . Electric Zoo Cancels Final Day, 2 Dead 4 Critically Injured

Due to serious health risks, the last day of Electric Zoo festival had been cancelled as recommended by the City. As a result of 2 deaths the festival organized by Made Event had to shut its doors early.

“Due to serious health risks, the Electric Zoo music festival on Randall’s Island on Sunday, September 1st has been cancelled. The City recommended cancellation and the event promoters have agreed.

During the first two days of the Electric Zoo music festival, two concert-goers have died and at least four others became critically ill and have been placed in intensive care at area hospitals. Both deaths appear to have involved the drug MDMA (ecstasy, or molly). The Electric Zoo organizers have worked with City officials to reduce health risks at this event, but in view of these occurrences, the safest course is to cancel the remaining day of the event.”
