Proudly proclaiming, “This is us in 2014.“, Above & Beyond‘s yearly Volumes series continues with the 14th edition of their ever expanding Anjunabeats brand. These three have seen a lot of change within the past couple years and are more affiliated with Progressive House and Progressive than Trance nowadays via ‘the Group Therapy sound’. However, that isn’t to say that Anjunabeats is any better or worse for it; rather, it is a different avenue to explore and discover. Along with the complete overhaul of Anjunadeep into Deep House and their highly unusual choices in releases and track selection, the ever versatile Above & Beyond continues to remain at the forefront of clear innovation and accessibility. Per their previous counterparts, Volume 14 will be split into two CD’s, and it is CD 1 that I am personally excited for. The A side will focus more on the Anjunadeep side of Group Therapy as frequent favorites such as Matt Lange and 16 Bit Lolitas receive noted spots on this release.
However, there are other lesser known talents who have graced their precence on Volume 14 and it’s artists that are really in depth with their sound and character. The addition of Betoko, Parker & Hanson, Guy J, and Cid Inc. are welcome additions to the release and add the layer of depth needed to solidify a sturdy foundation for CD 2. The flip side features many unreleased tracks that were played during Above & Beyond‘s ABGT 050 performance such as Oliver Smith‘s Evermore and the Genix vs. Las Salinas remix of Anjunabeach. Along with fan favorites such as Pyramid Scheme by Mat Zo and Spheres by Ilan Bluestone, it also features other, never before heard productions like The District by Andrew Bayer and Run by Genix; (not to mention a slew of their own productions peppered into the mix).
