Taylor Swift Being Sued For Allegedly Stealing Lyrics

Taylor Swift Trademarks Five Common English Phrases

The music industry is a tricky place when it comes to copyright and licensing; that’s why megastars like Robin Thicke and Taylor Swift have a team of lawyers at their disposal should any issues arise from their musical creations.

It’s being reported now that Jesse Braham, an R&B singer who goes by the stage name Jesse Graham, is suing Taylor Swift, alleging that she took lyrics from one of his songs for her massive hit “Shake It Off.”

Speaking with the New York Daily News earlier this week, Braham asserts that there’s simply “no way” Swift could have imagined the phrases “haters gonna hate,” “players gonna play,” or “fakers gonna fake” on her own. “Her hook is the same as mine,” Braham claims. “If I didn’t write the song ‘Haters Gone Hate,’ there wouldn’t be a song called ‘Shake It Off.’”

Braham is suing Swift for $42 million.
