If you’ve been to a festival, you’ve likely seen companies with air conditioned booths, iPads to add you on their subscription lists, free merchandise, and outrageous deals to get you on board their swag train.
These companies are there because they understand the demographic of who’s in attendance, and they’re willing to shell out serious monies to know whether they should be selling black light unicorn totems at either Electric Forest or Coachella. With companies like Facebook getting their hands on nearly every detail of our lives, it’s no surprise that the festivals you choose to attend says just as much about you.
Now, a new infographic by Nielson takes a dive into the demographics of Bonnaroo, Coachella, and Lollapalooza. As Nielson branded film and music director Matt Yazge puts it:
“Two festivals may look very similar demographically, but if I’m a brand manager trying to pick a festival I can sponsor to promote my bourbon brand, it would be important for me to know if the Bonnaroo fan or the Coachella fan is a more active bourbon drinker. And knowing what behaviors these fans engage in when they’re at the festival would help me understand if it’s more important to include a Snapchat Geofilter as part of my activation, or promote a brand hashtag on Instagram.”
