Toward the end of December, “Closer” had been viewed on YouTube more than one billion times total, including the lyric video and official music video, as well as all uploads by third party channels. Two days ago, the lyric video by itself finally surpassed the one billion view mark.
It’s a feat only accomplished by a handful of other electronic acts, such as Avicii and Major Lazer. For The Chainsmokers to have a hit this big having only really broken through in the scene in the last 18 months is a massive accomplishment.
Their new song “Paris” comes out tomorrow. Let’s see if it can keep up with the hype.
