SXM Music Festival has announced a 2018 cancellation in order to prepare for a bigger and better return in 2019.

The third edition of SXM Festival, a boutique electronic music event on the island of Saint Martin, is set to go down March 13 – 17, 2019. Meaning 2018 just isn’t happening — and anyone that already purchased tickets to next year’s event will automatically receive refunds.

SXM says its ties with the island of Saint Martin / Sint Maarten are “stronger than ever” and it has always been the festival’s main mission to “have as many of you possible discover the most amazing island of the Caribbean.”

Unfortunately, devastation caused by Hurricane Irma has made it difficult to move forward with the production and planning. SXM has ultimately ruled there isn’t enough hotel rooms or operational flights into the area to accommodate its guests.

In an official statement, SXM writes:

As with so many of our friends and partners, Hurricane Irma turned our jobs and lives upside down. Our wish is to see our gem of a rock recover as soon as possible and for this reason we have been considering all the available options to forge ahead with the third edition of what has become our pride and for many, the most beautiful electronic music event in the world: SXM Festival.

SXM Festival promises to “return bigger and better in 2019 with a brand new island and our best edition to date!”
