If there’s a person who knows the ins and outs of the music industry, it’s Amy Thomson, Swedish House Mafia‘s manager. She’s worked with everyone from Kanye West to DJ Snake to Gorillaz, and now she’s heading up a 5-day crash course called Mind Your Own Business — perfect for those trying to break into the industry and all for a great cause.
Thomson’s 20-years of experience, music business knowhow, and textbook will guide the series as a panel of professional experts offer up lessons and discussions along the way. Many aspects of the industry will be covered including music branding, marketing, royalties, law, and much more.
“There are trademarks, liability insurance, marketing, digital spends, who you need to hire in your team,” Thomson explains. “This is the sort of thing young managers can be fired for, and that’s not fair, but where is the course which gives them a basic understanding? At the very least so they know the experts they need to hire, what types of fees those people expect, and have they covered all their basics.”
Of course, with all the knowledge and connections of MYOB comes a price tag. But the real silver lining is all proceeds from the $1,311 per-head tuition will go toward mental health charities. So, money will be going back to music organizations that can help exactly where we’re hurting.
MYOB comes to Central London Monday, Oct. 22 through Friday, Oct. 26. However, only the “brightest minds and hungriest attitudes” will be admitted. If you want to be the best in the biz, this just might be a great launch pad!
