Instagram is stepping up its game in all sorts of ways to ensure its users stay logged in and connected better than ever. The app’s latest feature is all about video chatting, as Insta introduces a new 4-way option via direct message.
Instagram already boasts its signature photo/video feed, 24-hour Stories, direct messaging, Live streaming, IGTV for long-from video sharing — and now, video calling. Much like its owner Facebook, Insta is looking to be a one stop shop for social media.
Probably the coolest part about this video feature is that you can continue browsing even as you’re chatting it up with friends on the video call. All about that multitasking type of life.
Here’s how Insta’s new group video chat feature stacks up against other popular apps:
Instagram – 4-way plus simultaneous browsing
Snapchat – 16-way with up to 32 people via listening via audio
FaceTime – 32-way (coming in iOS 12 this fall)
Houseparty – 8-way per room with limitless parallel rooms
Facebook Messenger – 6-way with up to 50 people listening via audio
This new feature is meant to make it feel like you’re just hanging out with friends — as Instagram hopes to make all experiences on the app positive and intentional. See how it works below.
