Exciting news for Darude and dance music fans in Finland!
Darude will represent his homeland in the Eurovision Song Contest this year. For anyone who hasn’t witnessed the international song competition — each participating country will submit an original song that will be performed live on radio and television. Then, votes will be cast for the various countries’ songs to determine a sole winner.
The producer is best known for his insanely popular dance anthem “Sandstorm,” truly one of the best things to come out of 1999. The music video for the dance track, later uploaded to YouTube in 2009, has racked up over 143 million views and counting.
Darude provided a statement along with the announcement:
This is a huge challenge for me in many ways. When I was asked to represent Finland I felt a bit scared at first, but there as no way I could say no to my country! It is an honor to be part of this incredible experience and I only have positive expectations!
He continued on social media:
This is such an huge honor for me to represent my home country in this way, and I am SO excited to share the next few months of this crazy Eurovision experience with you all!
The first wave of tickets will go on sale later in February. Further details to be announced.
