Rising Boston acts Devon James and Warung collab for new EP “Madness”

Who’s down for some house music for a good cause? Rising Boston acts Devon James and Warung have teamed up for a two-track collaborative EP Madness, and it is the perfect vibe for your after hours, self-quarantine house party. Featuring two high-energy house heaters, the Madness EP showcases these two rising talents. They first collaborated last year on a bootleg of Channel Tres’ “Top Down.” Following that up, the two acts show that they will be a force to be reckoned with on the house scene going forward. “Madness” has all the appeal of after hours house with melody. “Lucidity” has a tribal flair that will take you deep down the rabbit hole.

What’s the good cause you might be asking? All of Warung’s merch is comprised of upcycled and repurposed material. What does that mean exactly? Basically, the duo screen prints their logo onto thrifted clothes, either that they’ve purchased or that fans send them. This breathes new life into old apparel pieces, reducing the waste of discarded clothing, removing the need to produce new/raw materials, and ultimately cutting down on air and water pollution, landfill use, and even greenhouse gas emissions. What a simple but amazing concept, and an incredible example of smaller, independent artists making a difference in the world. Here’s what Dillon from Warung had to say about the merch line.

“Everyone notices trends going out and coming back in over the years. We think it’s awesome to embrace these different styles, and then kind of make them our own with our logo. We definitely offer the tees and sweatshirts that people love, but enjoy offering some really funky and different pieces as well.” – Dillon Ames

Check out Warung’s line of repurposed merch here. 5% of all profits go toward the non-profit organization Kiva, which provides the financial overhead for those in developing countries to start their own businesses which will provide for their families and help their communities grow. An extra 10% of profits are currently being donated to Boston’s Artist Relief Fund which provides aid to local artists whose work and income have been impacted by the Covid-19 Pandemic.
