Omar+ isn’t letting up on his breakout year. The rising artist has released ‘Can’t Slow Down’ via Atlantic Records, a self-written and self-produced club track that puts his own vocal work front and center rather than leaning on outside features. The single arrives alongside his first official music video, directed by Alex Sansom, marking another milestone in what’s been a fast-moving stretch for the artist.
The record leans into a mid-tempo house pocket, giving Omar+ room to work his vocal in a way that feels closer to soul and R&B than typical club fare, while the instrumental stays bright and buoyant underneath him. Rather than building toward a single climactic drop, the track settles into an extended, feel-good stretch near the back half that rewards patience over payoff, a groove built to hold a room rather than jolt it. It’s a natural next step following his spring collaboration with Ben Sterling, ‘Out Of My Mind’, and his earlier link-up with Luke Dean on ‘Back to the 305,’ both of which pushed his sound into slightly different territory.
The release lands amid a packed year for Omar+, who’s spent recent months playing Coachella, Miami Music Week, Red Rocks, and CircoLoco at DC10, with HARD Summer, Creamfields, Reading Festival, and III Points still ahead on the calendar. Between the festival run and a steady stream of new music, Omar+‘s rise over the past twelve months has been hard to ignore — and ‘Can’t Slow Down’ feels like a fitting title for where he’s at right now.
