Electronic music has emerged as one of the standout growth stories in American music consumption so far this year, according to Luminate’s newly released 2026 Midyear Report. While R&B and hip-hop remain the most-streamed genre overall, commanding roughly a quarter of all US streams, dance and electronic tracked among the fastest-rising categories over the first six months of 2026, a shift that lines up with what festivalgoers and club regulars have been feeling on the ground all summer.
Names like John Summit and Disco Lines were singled out in coverage of the report as emblematic of that surge, both having become fixtures across major festival lineups over the past year and pulling new listeners into the genre in the process. Notably, the growth isn’t confined to new releases, the report also flagged a renewed spike in listening to electronic tracks originally released between 2015 and 2017, suggesting a wave of nostalgia for the last major EDM boom is running alongside the genre’s current momentum.
The data lands just after industry estimates pegged the global electronic music business at a record $15.1 billion, reinforcing that the surge in listenership is translating into real commercial weight, from streaming numbers to festival attendance worldwide.
