Fred again.. and Mexican trio LATIN MAFIA have released under the fabric, a 35-minute film documenting an unplanned studio session the two acts recorded together in Mexico City this past December. Shot beneath a fabric installation designed by Dutch visual artist Boris Acket, the footage was captured hours before Fred’s December 11th show as part of his USB002 run, a night LATIN MAFIA joined him onstage for. Rather than a polished highlight reel, the film leans into process, showing the two acts working through in-progress material that has not yet been released.
Announcing the project on Instagram, Fred revealed the collaboration actually stretches back years, explaining that he and LATIN MAFIA have been trading ideas on and off for a while, and everything they made kept naturally feeling like part of the same world rather than something he had to force into shape. He also pointed to the family dynamic underpinning the partnership: LATIN MAFIA are three brothers, he makes music with his own brother, and both acts are managed by siblings, something he called a proper family affair.
LATIN MAFIA echoed that sentiment in a Spanish-language post of their own, describing Fred as an artist whose honesty and sensitivity in his music has inspired them since they first crossed paths at his shows years ago, and saying the connection simply made sense given how much they shared creatively from the start. The trio confirmed they’re now reconvening with Fred in their home city to finish the project properly, with plans to livestream the full process until the collaborative body of work is complete. 
The film premiered for fans in person at Cine Tonalá in Mexico City ahead of its wider YouTube release, setting the stage for the joint project the pair are now racing to finish together.
