Facebook will be following in the footsteps of photo-sharing leviathan Snapchat by adding selfie filters to their arsenal of features.
The filters were developed by Facebook-owned company MSQRD, and will be integrated into Facebook Live’s video streaming tool which is now available to all users on pages and personal accounts. Users will be able to face-swap, add celebrity overlays and much more in real time – and we can’t wait to see how Dillon Francis uses these.
By connecting to Facebook through the official MSQRD app, users will be able to access the new feature’s entire host of unique filters. As well, Facebook pledges an upcoming tool that can be used to invite friends to join your live stream in real time. You can find out more about that here.
This effort comes as another tier in the ever-evolving battle between the social media powerhouses. Following the addition of Facebook’s Instant Articles, Snapchat’s Discovery channels, live sports updates and more, the two sites continue to lock themselves in a desperate battle to attract more and more participators.
