Last night the internet lost its collective mind and rightfully, Daft Punk had just released their first work of music in 3 years with none other than Canadian R&B superstar Abęl Tesfaye a.k.a. The Weeknd. With the breaking news of the monumental collaboration between Abel & everyone’s favorite robotic French duo It got me thinking will a deadmau5 & The Weeknd collaboration ever see the light of day?
A little while back deadmau5 reached out to The Weeknd on Twitter in hopes of getting a possible response from rather elusive superstar. No response was given but one must consider that Abel rarely ever uses Twitter as a means of communication with other high profile public figures.
Hey @theweeknd wanna have a go at this? pic.twitter.com/SYOjEHE9Q1

Due to deadmau5’s general aversion to all things pop, the simple reaching out to Abel showcases the mau5’s desire to create something totally new and out of the ordinary. If the two of them were to ever collaborate on something it would without a doubt be deadmau5’s most “poppy” and mainstream track that he would have ever created. With Joel’s signature atmospheric emotion evoking sound design paired with Abel’s dark and eerie vocals just the thought of the canadians getting together in the studio has me all hyped.
The possibility of a collaboration is not completely out of the picture though at least not yet. The Weeknd has been working with a plethora of electronic acts as of late such as: Disclosure, Cashmere Cat and of course Daft Punk while also giving official remix credits to Martin Garrix, RL Grime and Kygo. Adding deadmau5 to that list would most certainly be one for the books.
