The Chainsmokers Receive 4 Nominations At American Music Awards

The American Music Awards has released its list of nominees for the 2016 season, with relatively few surprises. The big news surrounding the nominations concerns Drake, who snagged 13 total to become the most-nominated artist in the history of the awards, beating the previous record of 11 held by Michael Jackson. Rihanna is second this year in nominations, with a respectable, but comparatively paltry, 7 nominations.

As far as EDM goes, the only artist to make it out of the constricting Favorite Electronic Dance Music Artist category is, you guessed it, The Chainsmokers. The duo are also nominated for New Artist of the YearCollaboration of the Year for “Don’t Let Me Down” with Daya, and Favorite Duo or Group, in which they’re up against some fierce competition from DNCE and Twenty One Pilots. This brings their total nomination count to 4.

The other two artists nominated for Favorite Electronic Dance Music Artist are Calvin Harris and Major Lazer, no surprise there.

Fans can vote for all categories once per day, per platform in one or both of the below ways. For New Artist of the Year Un-leashed by T-Mobile, fans can vote 100 times per day, per platform at AMAvote.com or by posting a tweet that includes the nominee’s Twitter handle, the category name and #AMAs within the post(s).

American Music Awards nominees are based on key fan interactions as reflected in Billboard Magazine and on Billboard.com, including album and digital song sales, radio airplay, streaming, social activity and touring. These measurements are tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound. Winners are voted entirely by fans, with voting opening today (Oct. 10) in all categories except New Artist of the Year Un-leashed by T-Mobile, which will open on November 2nd.
