The biggest hit of Ed Sheeran‘s career just got even bigger, as “Shape of You” is now officially the most-streamed song in the United Kingdom, ever!
Forbes reports that the Official Charts Company, which compiles weekly charts and collects music play data, has attributed at least 184 million streams to the hit pop song in the UK alone. Beating out Drake‘s “One Dance,” which held onto the top-streamed spot for the past year, “Shape of You” will be a tough one to dethrone considering its consistent radio play and steady popularity.
Upon its release, Sheeran’s 2017 album Divide completely crushed every UK chart record ever by landing in the top 20 sixteen times (a spot for each of his 16 tracks). At #1, naturally, was the singer/songwriter’s smooth, tropical pop tune that’s captured mainstream attention and generated a handful of EDM remixes, including a Major Lazer rework and a cover from Alison Wonderland x Naderi.
“Shape of You” isn’t just loved by the British, but by fans worldwide. Last month, the track became the 3rd to hit Spotify’s “Billion Play Club,” following Drake’s “One Dance,” and The Chainsmoker‘s “Closer.” (“Lean On” recently became the fourth track.)
