It’s been a little bit since we’ve covered Bronze Whale, and it seems like a fine wine, they’ve only aged with time. And, like wine, the flavor profile can change a little bit as it sits in the bottle.

For Bronze Whale, that has meant blending their indie and electronic vibes with a little bit of hip hop and a little R&B, bringing it all together in a way that feels personal and special to them. The hip hop might be a little lacking, but everything else is perfectly in tune in their new song, “Austin Is Fading,” with Poles.

The song is soft on the edges but it has a hard center, talking about some very real ideas and the feeling of holding onto something that might be outgrowing you.

“We tend to write late… like really late. So without fail, someone (or one of us) usually passes out in the studio. That was the case with our buddy Austin (Poles) who was working on this song with us. The name stuck, but when writing the lyrics, I decided to explore what the town we live in (Austin, TX) means to us and how drastically it, and our relationships within it are changing.”

This is only the beginning for Bronze Whale, with their first single of the year. You can listen to it below.

Lyrics:

Is it all an uphill battle to you
Or can we find a compromise and just hold on to
Little moments until we forget
How we got to this place
Said I can’t walk away
Now I feel a change
Said I’ll take this time rearrange
Got me feeling strange
Give you something to hold onto
Said baby let’s hold on to you

Let’s hold on to you
Said let’s hold on to you
Let’s hold on to you
Let’s hold on to you
Let’s hold on to you
Let’s hold on to you

In the distance I will find a way
To collect these scattered pieces that you forgave
And I wait until we touch again
Make it back to that place
Said I won’t walk away
We can make this change
Move in closer now but you refrain
Got me feeling ways
Give me something to hold onto
Baby let’s hold on to you
Baby let’s hold on to you

Let’s hold on to you
Said let’s hold on to you
Let’s hold on to you
Let’s hold on to you
Let’s hold on to you
Let’s hold on to you
