One of the most long standing titans of EDM has brought a new sub-label into being that will surely spark many new creations to come. We are, of course, talking about Tiësto. Maybe you heard its inaugural track previewed by someone with close ties to the DJ, or maybe you even heard it while dancing during his set at Ultra. Either way, it’s finally built up enough critical mass to be officially shared with the world.
The new label is called AFTR:HRS and its first track comes from an unknown artist named BLR. The track, ‘Nungwi’, merges deep trop-house with elements of stadium-trap and definitely has the potential to become a summer banger if it’s received well. Over the years, Tiësto’s been known to divine what’s just beyond EDM’s consciousness and turn it into intuitive genre-blends that make every footfall of the beat oh-so-satisfying. Previously this has been accomplished with his well respected Musical Freedom label, giving rise to artists like Hardwell, Martin Garrix, and The Chainsmokers. We’ll be watching closely as AFTR:HRS progresses, and see if it gives this old master of EDM the new kind of reign he’ll enjoy.
Below you’ll hear an excerpt of BBC Radio 1’s Dance Anthems, which premieres the official release of the track ‘Nungwi’ by BLR, the first official release off of Tiësto’s new label AFTR:HRS:
